Inspecting Your Roof

We recommend inspecting your roof frequently for damage, cracked shingles or other signs of roofing issues. View the roof, ground and the gutters around your home for any signs of broken shingles or other debris from the roof. Inside your home, check for any signs of leaking or water stains on interior walls, ceilings and on the interior of the attic roof. If you find any signs of an issue with your roof, we recommend giving New England Roofing a call right away so we can provide you with one of our professional roof inspections to help identify a solution.

Ice Dams

Ice dams can quickly form in snowy weather and can cause a great deal of damage to a roof. It is important for homeowners to understand what an ice dam looks like and to take steps to prevent ice dams from occurring. Ice dams form when snow quickly melts from a warm roof and refreezes along the eaves and gutters, forming a ridge of ice that does not allow additional water to drain from the roof. The trapped water can pool and eventually seep underneath the roofing materials to leak into the interior of the home.

Preventing ice dams is as simple as making sure your attic has proper insulation and ventilation. An attic that retains warm air will warm the roofing surface and melt snow that refreezes when it reaches the cold eaves and gutters. If you see signs of ice dams on your roof, give us a call so our professional team can troubleshoot the issue and offer solutions.
